Back in The Day

Tupac Amaru Shakur was born in the East Harlem section of Manhattan in New York City. He was named after Túpac Amaru II, a Peruvian revolutionary who led an indigenous uprising against Spain and was subsequently executed. His mother, Afeni Shakur, was an active member of the Black Panther Party in New York in the late 1960s and early 1970s; Shakur was born just one month after her acquittal on more than 150 charges of "Conspiracy against the United States government and New York landmarks" in the New York Panther 21 court case. Although officially unconfirmed by the Shakur family, several sources list his birth name as either "Parish Lesane Crooks" or "Lesane Parish Crooks". Afeni feared her enemies would attack her son, and disguised their relation using a different last name, only to change it three months or a year later, following her marriage to Mutulu Shakur.

Struggle and incarceration surrounded Shakur from an early age. His godfather, Elmer "Geronimo" Pratt, a high ranking Black Panther, was convicted of murdering a school teacher during a 1968 robbery, although his sentence was later overturned. His stepfather, Mutulu, spent four years at large on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list beginning in 1982, when Shakur was a pre-teen. Mutulu was wanted in part for having helped his sister Assata Shakur (also known as Joanne Chesimard), his godmother, to escape from a penitentiary in New Jersey, where she had been incarcerated for allegedly shooting a state trooper to death in 1973. Mutulu was caught in 1986 and imprisoned for the robbery of a Brinks armored truck in which two police officers and a guard were killed. Shakur had a half-sister, Sekyiwa, two years his junior, and an older stepbrother, Mopreme "Komani" Shakur, who appeared on many of his recordings.

At the age of twelve, Shakur enrolled in Harlem's famous "127th Street Ensemble." His first major role with this acting troupe was as Travis in A Raisin in the Sun. In 1984, his family relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, After completing his second year at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School he transferred to the Baltimore School for the Arts, where he studied acting, poetry, jazz, and ballet. He performed in Shakespeare plays, and in the role of the Mouse King in The Nutcracker. Shakur, accompanied by one of his friends, Dana "Mouse" Smith, as his beatbox, won most of the many rap competitions that he participated in and was considered to be the best rapper in his school. Although he lacked trendy clothing, he was one of the most popular kids in his school because of his sense of humor, superior rapping skills, and ability to mix in with all crowds. He developed a close friendship with a young Jada Pinkett (later Jada Pinkett Smith) that lasted until Shakur's death. In the documentary Tupac: Resurrection, Shakur says, "Jada is my heart. She will be my friend for my whole life," and Smith calls Shakur "one of my best friends. He was like a brother. It was beyond friendship for us. The type of relationship we had, you only get that once in a lifetime." A poem written by Shakur titled "Jada" appears in his book, The Rose That Grew From Concrete, which also includes a poem dedicated to Smith called "The Tears in Cupid's Eyes".

In June 1988, Shakur and his family moved once again, this time to Marin City, California, where he attended Tamalpais High School. Shakur began attending the poetry classes of Leila Steinberg
in 1989. In 1989, Steinberg organized a concert with Shakur's former group, Strictly Dope. The concert lead to him being signed with Atron Gregory who set him up with the up-and-coming rap group Digital Underground. In 1990, he was hired as the band's backup dancer and roadie.

HOW DID I GET THIS BOOK? (hungry mind)

When my wife and I was about to meet one time, I decided to drop by at Robinsons Mall (Dasma). on my way to the ground floor a book sale caught my attention. Since my wife was still on her way to our meeting place I decided to look around while melting some time. I was looking around each shelves when I found this book that has a picture of Tupac Shakur on the cover. I immediately grabbed the book and look for the price. I was surprised when I saw that it was only P99. 0 and a take one. I was so lucky at that time to saw a rare books like this. I pulled out dough in my pocket and rush to the counter to pay the book. Now I'm half way to finish reading this (BACK IN THE DAY my life and times with TUPAC SHAKUR by Darrin Bastfield) book and I discovered a lot of things about Tupac, I discovered that he is not just into rapping but he is also a poet, actor and a social activist who tried to make his way out into the zone of poverty, agitation, cruelty and discrimination and mark his way for greatness. Well its a great compliment for me to have this book cause I really like Tupac as an artist.

Autobioagraphy

Hungry mind was born on February 1, 1985 and raced in Bayanan, Muntinlupa City. Fourth among the six children of Mr. Lino and Mrs. Anunciacion Fenol. He grew up from a very simple and big happy family. He is a very funny person in front of his friends and relatives, but its the other way around when in front of the others where in he portrays a very quiet attitude. He is very inquisitive person who's always hungry for knowledge and never stop searching for it by reading books and different articles, surfing the net, watching television, movies and videos, and having conversation with different types of individual. Playing basketball and chillin' out to music is his favorite past time. Inspired by different artist such as Roberto "Bob" Marley, Francis "Kiko" Magalona, Aristotle "Gloc 9" Pollisco and Tupac Amaru Shakur he had been into rapping during his college life.

He took up his primary education in Bayanan Elementary School (main) and went to San Roque Catholic School for his secondary education. But he only spent three years there and transferred to Cavite when his father retired from work and decided to move there for good and to put up a business and also to take owned the house that was inherited to him by his father. He then went to college in Cavite State University which is located at Indang, Cavite (formerly known as Don Severino Delas Alas campus). He took up Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering but failed to continue the course, then he shifted to Bachelor of Science in Economics where he chose Business Economics as his major. Just like an ordinary student, he is a "happy go lucky guy" who doesn't gave to much attention to his homework, projects and exams, but he never put out of mind his obligation as a student and as a son, He also knows how to handle the consequences exceptionally. He just wanted to enjoy his life just like the others until he graduated May 4, 2007.

After graduation he was hired by Accenture (Business Process Outsourcing company) as claims processor for a year and a half. His life there was like a sick cycle carousel where he had been into ups and downs until he was ask to leave the company and look for another opportunity. He resigned in the month of October and got hired as an English as second language teacher for Korean nationals, somewhere in Tagayatay but it only lasted for three months. After being unemployed for a month he was hired by ProMed Solution LLC and started on the 1st day of the month of April. His career there runs smoothly until he got married to Ms. Sheryl Dinglasan on May 4, 2009 at Amadeo, Cavite. They are now expecting to have a baby and ready to face and start their own family.

Adversity is seem to be part and parcel of human life. One who is immersed in the mundane world is not free from these unpleasant mental states. But with the help of the people who love and care to him specifically his beloved wife (Sheryl Dinglasan Fenol) and the MAN upstairs (Our Heavenly Father) he remain positive and never say give up in facing whatever challenges may come to his path. That's how Hungry Mind live the life of uncertainty.
